Greensboro Immigration Rally

So. Several hours after the flag waving and speech making outside the Guildford Courthouse this afternoon I'm swigging an imported beer and thinking about this immigration "issue." It seems to me that the opponents of illegal immigrants frame their argument more often than not around the idea of security or securing the border. I wish some of these people would please explain to me or anyone else that might be listening what that means in a practical sense. When pundits such as Lou Dobbs and Bill O'Reilly whine endlessly about these illegals and the great harm they are doing to this great nation I'm tempted to ask under what circumstances their ancestors arrived and incorported themselves into this great society, this grand experiment?

Bill, to speak with familiarity, cried in a shrill, petulant tone, that "these people," arrived here illegally and that the very question of "rights" is irrelevant. Lou Dobbs suggests that neo-nazi affiliated minutemen patrolling our borders might solve some problems while we legislate a harsh resolve against the xeno invasion. The reality goes beyond the bounds of idealogues such as Bill and Lou who'd have us believe that simple repetition will solve the problems presented to us. The reality is that, at a minimum, 11 million illegal immigrants work, eat, and sleep in this country and we, as a nation do not have the resources to turn a productive community into criminals, nor should we.
